“Briefly, what I am proposing is that the psychology of the mature human being is an unfolding, emergent, oscillating, spiraling process marked by progressive subordination of older, lower-behavior systems to newer, higher-order systems as man’s existential problems change” |
Dynamic evolution of Value Systems (vMemes)
The spiral represents the dynamic evolution of valuesystems, worldviews and thinking as they develop in answer to our life conditions and challenges. The spiral can be applied to a single individual, an organisaton or society. It describes human nature in a universal way. There is no judgement, no better or worse. The so-called ValueMemes follow different lines as a result of new emerging systems, based on our life conditions. The levels in the 1st Tier (6 ValueMemes) are convinced that their belief systems are the only correct ones with all the answers. When new more complex thinking develops, all underpinning levels will be viewed as defacto incorrect. Every level is needed for a healthy development. Healthy or unhealthy is only determined by the damage to other systems. The model provides us with a joint language to address local and global problems. It offers a coherent framework to think and act holistic. It offers organisations insight in how to transform to a healthy and accessible culture for the introduction of complex technologies and fast change. |
Seeing systems in colors
Spiral Dynamics uses colors -- beige, purple, red, blue, orange, green, yellow, and turquoise (coral would be next) . These colors are a metaphor and symbolic code to make conversation easier since they break from overt hierarchy -- it's hard to say whether Green or Blue is better. They were deliberately not related to other color schemes. You can think of the colors as representing what people in each world seek out in life as the systems grow out of those which came before. Online PeopleSCAN
In order to accelerate the learning and development of Spiral Dynamics Integral, an online PeopleSCAN was developed to offer a wide range of individual, group surveys and reporting capabilities. It supports all aspects of the learning and developing effort. For more information http://www.onlinepeoplescan.com/ |
